§ 01Add the connector
Your assistant cannot do this for you: no app lets a chat change its own settings. You do it once.

Claude is renaming the menu: from 29 October 2026 Customize reads Plugins on some accounts. If you do not see Customize, look for Plugins.
Customize, then Connectors, then "+", then Add custom connector (the same in the browser and the desktop app). Name it Avokata, paste the address, leave the authentication fields empty, save. The connection lives in your account, so the desktop app sees it too.
Desktop and phone apps
Claude Desktop and the phone apps use the connectors of your Claude account: add Avokata once (the button above, in a browser or in Claude Desktop) and it is everywhere. If the sign-in opens in your browser, be signed in to claude.ai there with the same account, and type the code from the email on that same page. If the browser asks to open the Claude app, click "Open Claude".
Two places people get stuck
On the free plan Claude allows one custom connector: if you already have one, decide which to keep. Claude connects from its own servers, not your computer, so a VPN or firewall makes no difference here.

Before you start
Whether you can add your own MCP server depends on your ChatGPT plan and workspace permissions. OpenAI's help centre describes it for Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces (on Business an admin or owner adds it) and describes only search and fetch for Pro. It does not describe Plus, Go or Free: if Plugins shows no "Add custom MCP server", your account does not have it. Claude connects Avokata on any plan.
OpenAI's instructions describe adding it on the web (chatgpt.com). Once added and installed, you choose it with @ in a new chat. The browser where the sign-in opens must be signed in to chatgpt.com with the same account.

Desktop and phone apps
The ChatGPT desktop app (macOS, Windows) opens the sign-in in your default browser. Be signed in to chatgpt.com in that browser with the same ChatGPT account. When the browser asks to open the ChatGPT app, click "Open ChatGPT". The phone app cannot add your own connector (OpenAI: web only); add it on a computer. You can open the email with the code on your phone and type the code on the computer's sign-in page.
If it does not work
Codex (the coding agent in the ChatGPT desktop app, the terminal and code editors) keeps its own list of MCP servers, shared by the desktop app's Codex, the Codex CLI and the editor extension. Chats on chatgpt.com do not read that list: Avokata added in Codex will not appear in a ChatGPT chat. For chats use Plugins.

Pick the remote option
Always pick the remote or HTTP option, never local or stdio: Avokata is a server, not a program you install. If an app does not support remote MCP connectors, it cannot connect Avokata; we offer no workarounds.
The address for other apps
https://mcp.avokata.com/mcpTransport: streamable HTTP. If the app offers OAuth, choose it (ChatGPT needs it); leave the client ID and secret empty. You sign in with your email.
§ 02The first task
Go back to the chat and paste this task. The answer shows Avokata is connected and gives you a source you can check yourself.
Use Avokata. Find Article 58 of the Lithuanian Labour Code, read the version in force today and give me: 1) the article's title; 2) the date the applicable version took effect; 3) the link to the Register of Legal Acts. Say separately what you could not check.How to tell it works
The chat shows an Avokata tool call, and the answer has the article title, the date the edition took effect and a Register of Legal Acts link that opens. If the assistant says it has no such tool or asks you to sign in, the connection is not finished yet.

Once the first task works, you can ask the assistant a few questions about your work and to suggest settings. This is optional.

Every request needs an account. The client keeps the sign-in (OAuth), so you rarely need a key. If a script or a client without a Sign in button needs one, ask your assistant to sign you in with your email and to issue a key. The key is shown once.

Paragraph reads, citation-graph queries and validity checks are unlimited during the beta.
Sign in through your AI assistant: give your email and open our confirmation email. Read the terms, tick the acknowledgement yourself and confirm sign-in. Your assistant cannot accept for you.
§ 04Your first question
Search works in Lithuanian. Asked in English, the assistant gets a warning and the Lithuanian terms to use.
